This collaboration initiated with the appointment of Professor Castaldi to an international Visiting Scholar Program; The Programme of Introducing Talents of Discipline to Universities, Overseas Academic Backbone for Zhejiang University. This group consists of a Nobel Prize Winner, NAE members and department heads. The “111 Project” began in 2005 and is financially supported by the Ministry of Education (MOE) of the People’s Republic of China and the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs (SAFEA). The 111 Project’s aim is to introduce about 1000 foreign outstanding professional experts from the top 100 universities or the top 20 disciplines in the world as visiting scientists for collaborative research and academic exchange.
Professor Castaldi spends one month at Zhejiang University co-advising students in the areas of catalysis and gasification. The CCL hosts visiting scholars and students to conduct research of joint interest at CCL.

Professor Jin Yuqi – 2011 – Conducted experimental research on biomass gasification using the drop-tube reactor.
Assistant Professor Zhixiao Zhang – 2009-2010 – Conducted detailed ASPEN analyses on CO2 enhancement of coal gasification.
Professor Junhu Zhou – 2007 – Conducted analytical research on waste to energy in the US to bring back best practices to China.
