CCL Researchers Present at AIChE 2025

The Combustion & Catalysis Laboratory attended the 2025 American Institute of Chemical Engineers Annual Meeting in Boston, MA from November 2–6, 2025. Marco Castaldi (PI), Michael Lugo-Pimentel (Postdoctoral Researcher), Janhvi Trivedi (PhD Candidate), and Kaitlyn Lawrence (PhD Candidate) represented the group at this year’s conference.

CCL contributed three technical presentations highlighting ongoing work in sustainable waste conversion, emissions mitigation, and resource recovery. Lugo-Pimentel presented “Thermochemical Conversion of High-Moisture Organic Wastes Via Hydrothermal Liquefaction and Gasification: A New Approach for Waste Management and Energy Recovery.” Trivedi presented “Impact of Reactive Conditions on WTE Ash for Recovery of Critical Elements and Waste Management.”Lawrence presented “Efficacy of Waste-to-Energy Ash in CO-SCR for NOx Abatement.”

The Chemical Engineering Department at City College also hosted a networking event during the meeting, organized collaboratively by department faculty, including Chair Marco Castaldi. The gathering brought together colleagues, collaborators, and alumni, and offered a great opportunity to connect with members of the broader chemical engineering community.
