Canadian Energy-From-Waste Coalition Meeting a success

CEFWCOn April 10 ,2013, the Canadian Energy-From-Waste Coalition (CEFWC) hosted an EFW workshop in conjunction with the SWANA Pacific Northwest (PNW) Chapter annual general meeting in Richmond, British Columbia.  The goal was to educate key BC-based influencers and decision-makers about the merits of EFW.  By all accounts it was a tremendous success.  Dr. Castaldi was among the presenters, speaking on “A global assessment of EFW implementation.” Based on the feedback received, CEFWC will be repeating this exercise in eastern Canada and Alberta, as well as with other potential stakeholder groups.

Castaldi named new chair of Research and New Technology Committee of AIChE

Marco Castaldi is now the new chair of the Research and New Technology Committee (RANTC) of AIChE.  The main activity of RANTC is to keep AIChE on the forefront of new ideas coming “down the pipe” in which chemical engineers can have an important contributing role. RANTC is the entity that identifies, nurtures, and deploys professionally relevant technologies that strengthen AIChE by attracting and retaining practicing professionals involved in those technologies. Tim Sharobem invited to Gordon Conference

Tim Sharobem was invited to participate in the Gordon Research Conference on High Temperature Corrosion this July in New London, NH.  The Gordon Research Conference (GRC) on High Temperature Corrosion has a history of more than 70 years.  The speakers of lectures are all invited, who are chosen for their expertise, recent research advances, and/or novelty of approach. The environment of the conference provides an international and diverse forum for scientific discussion, to develop innovative ideas concerning the conference topic.

CCL to co-sponsor sessions at 32nd Annual IT3/HWC Conference

IT3For the first time, CCL, in collaboration with the Earth Engineering Center (EEC) and the Waste-to-Energy Research and Technology Council (WTERT), will be co-sponsoring sessions at the 32nd International Conference on Thermal Treatment Technologies and Hazardous Waste Combustors (IT3/HWC).  The conference will take place on October 21-23, 2013 in San Antonio, TX.

IT3/HWC, a thermal treatment conference, provides a forum for the discussion of state of the art technical information, regulations, and public policy on thermal treatment technologies and their relationship to air emissions, greenhouse gases, climate change, renewable energy or alternative energy production, and sustainability.  Beginning this year, the IT3/HWC conference will be co-located in odd years in partnership with WTERT and the Materials and Energy Recovery Division (MER) of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).

Call for Abstracts for the 2013 conference is now open!  Submit your abstract by May 1, 2013 here.

Jeffrey LeBlanc selected to attend 2013 ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit Student Program

arpaeJeffrey LeBlanc was selected to attend the 2013 ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit Student Program in Washington D.C. February 25-27th.  The ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit is the premier event dedicated to transformative energy solutions. This unique event brings together thought leaders from academia, business, and government to discuss cutting-edge energy issues and facilitate relationships to help move technologies into the marketplace. The 70 graduate-level students selected to participate in the Student Program have the opportunity to attend the Summit, participate in additional student-focused panel sessions, and network with corporate recruiters. One opportunity is for graduate students to network with companies looking for new talent and for companies to meet the next generation of energy leaders.
